KARACHI: The Sindh government has abolished the death quota for the children of deceased employees in line with the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).
The Sindh Cabinet approved the proposal to end the death quota on December 4, 2024.
As per the notification issued today, no further appointments will be made under the deceased quota system in the province.
On October 18, 2024, the Supreme Court declared the quota policy and benefits for the children of government employees as illegal. The apex court found the allocation of jobs to widows or children of deceased employees without advertisements or open merit in violation of Articles 3, 4, 5, 25, and 27 of the Constitution.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court instructed that both the federal and provincial governments should end the practice of appointing children of government employees without advertisements or open merit.
