RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi’s Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday formally charged nine more accused including former federal minister Shireen Mazari in the GHQ attack case.
In a separate development, former foreign minister and senior leader of the Imran Khan’s party Shah Mehmood Qureshi was transferred from Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. However, the indictment proceedings against him have been postponed.
The Rawalpindi’s ATC judge Amjad Ali Shah heard 14 cases related to the May 9 incident including attack on GHQ at Adiala Jail. The accused were produced before the court.
During proceedings on Monday, ATC judge framed charges against the nine accused who were Dr Shireen Mazari, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Khadim Hussain, Zakirullah, Azeemullah Khan, Major Tahir Sadiq, Mehar Muhammad Javed, Chaudhry Asif and Munir.
The court recorded the attendance of the defendants in all cases and subsequently adjourned the hearing of 13 cases related to the May 9 incident until January 6.
Additionally, a hearing took place for another case concerning the GHQ attack, with former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, former human rights minister Shireen Mazari, and former Punjab law minister Raja Basharat, along with other accused, appearing before the court.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi was transferred to Adiala Jail for the case hearing, and PTI founding chairman Imran Khan was also presented in the courtroom.
The prosecution filed a petition for the cancellation of bail for 23 accused, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who have been continuously absent from court.
During the proceedings, the court formally indicted the accused and adjourned the proceedings until December 19.
