LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) on Saturday closed several sections of motorways due to thick smog across Punjab.

The decision to shut several sections of motorways was taken in order avoid any untoward situation.

As per details, the M-2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Sarwar, the Lahore-Sialkot motorway, and the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim are closed due to heavy fog and smog.

A spokesperson for the motorway police has said that these sections o of motorways are closed for public safety. Drivers are advised to travel during daylight hours and use fog lights while on the road.

In light of the ongoing smog crisis, the Lahore High Court yesterday had ordered the implementation of a work-from-home policy and instructed that all markets close by 8pm. The court also directed the confiscation of vehicles that contribute significantly to air pollution.

The Punjab government has begun enforcing the work-from-home initiative, allowing both private and government employees to work remotely.

Yesterday, the Punjab government also closed public places including parks, zoos, playgrounds, joy/play lands, historical places, monuments, and museums, will remain closed in Lahore and other cities of Punjab for the next ten days.

Moreover, plans are in place for artificial rain in Lahore on November 11 and 12. During this period, parks and recreational areas across eighteen districts will remain closed for ten days.
