QUETTA: At least 24 people were killed and over 40 others injured on Saturday after a suicide blast ripped through Quetta Railway Station, the division commissioner said.
Deputy Commissioner Quetta Hamza Shafaqat confirmed that the explosion at the railway station in Quetta was a suicide attack. He said that 24 people were killed in the deadly bombing.
He added that the security forces deployed at the railway station were the target of the suicide bomber.
The commissioner appealed to the public to visit hospitals and donate blood to help the blast victims. He also urged people to avoid going to bus stands, stations, and crowded places.
Hamza Shafqat said that terrorists often target soft targets. The banned organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast.
According to reports, the blast occurred at the railway station’s booking office just before the train arrived at the platform.
According to railway officials, the Jaffer Express was scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9 a.m. They added that the train had not yet reached the platform when the explosion occurred.
Following the blast, rescue workers and police quickly rushed to the site and transported the injured to Civil Hospital Quetta and other nearby hospitals for medical treatment. A state of emergency has been declared at the hospitals, and doctors and paramedical staff were immediately called to duty.
Some of the injured were also being treated at the trauma center.
Speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Quetta, Muhammad Baloch, said that the explosion appeared to be a suicide blast. However, he added that further investigations are ongoing.
Railway officials said that the blast, which occurred near the ticket booth, took place while two trains were scheduled to depart, with passengers already on the platform.
Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the provincial government, stated that police and security teams had arrived at the scene, and a report on the incident had been requested.
He further explained that authorities are working to ascertain the cause of the explosion, while emergency services have been activated at hospitals. The spokesman also mentioned that efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage.

Interior Minister Condemns Terror Attacks
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the targeting of innocent civilians in an inhumane and barbaric act.
He reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to standing alongside law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism. Expressing deep grief over the tragic loss of children, he extended his condolences to the grieving families.
“This is a battle for all of us, and with the support of the people, it will continue until every terrorist and their facilitators are eliminated. The nation’s determination to defeat terrorism.” he said.
CM seeks report
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemned the blast and directed authorities concerned to submit complete report of the bomb blast.
He said that these terrorists now started targeting innocent people, women and children to spread fear among common people but they will never succeed in their nefarious designs.
