BANNU: At least seven policemen were abducted by unidentified armed men from the police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bannu district on Monday, police officials said.

District Police Officer (DPO) Ziauddin said the armed men seized control of the Rocha checkpost in the Ahmadzai subdivision of Bannu and kidnapped the police personnel.

According to the details, the incident took place after maghrib prayer when a group of armed men stormed the checkpoint and took the policemen hostage. They shifted policemen to an undisclosed location along with their weapons.

Police have confirmed their identities as Saleem, Aqal Rahman, Mewa Jan, Roshaan, Abdul Malik, Naimatullah, and Shad Muhammad.

DPO Bannu added that a search operation was underway in the area to locate the kidnappers and rescue police officials.

Earlier in September, armed men kidnapped Assistant Sub-Inspector Sakhi Zaman from the Circular Road in Bannu. Later, his release was secured after a tribal jirga comprising elders and religious scholars also engaged in the search efforts.
