ISLAMABAD: Islamabad residents have welcomed significant progress in the Serena Interchange project, as a portion of the underpass has officially been opened for traffic, confirmed a spokesperson for the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday.

Most importantly, around 5 components of the project, including link and slip roads, have been completed; on the directives of the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The CDA spokesperson also said that the structural work of two underpasses has been completed and now further construction is being done along Srinagar Highway, indicating much progress in dealing with the infrastructure challenges of the city.

CDA chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa inspected the site of the underpass and expressed satisfaction with the work’s pace. He announced that the underpass on Suhrawardy Road was also functional and had begun to relieve traffic congestion on the facilities of the patronized commuters.

“This is a very important milestone for the Serena Interchange project,” said Chairman Randhawa. “The remaining segments are progressing at a swift pace, and we remain committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure to the city’s residents.”

In addition, landscaping and horticulture are ongoing around the underpass to ensure the area is functional and visually appealing.
