ISLAMABAD: SadaPay users, Pakistan’s fintech company, are raising concerns on social media about scam calls where individuals posing as Sadapay representatives attempt to defraud users by asking for their OTPs (One-Time Passwords).

An Islamabad-based 27-year-old woman working at a startup shared her experience with Azaad English. She reported receiving a call from a mobile number at around 10:20am.

The caller introduced himself as part of the Sadapay team and claimed that to keep her account active for the next five years, she needed to provide the OTP sent to her number.

She hesitated to share the OTP and questioned the caller’s legitimacy. To convince her, the caller provided details of her last transaction, including the amount, recipient, and date. Feeling assured, she shared the OTP.

The caller then confirmed that her account was now verified and would remain active for the next five years.

However, upon checking her Sadapay account later, she found that all her money had been deducted. Additionally, a new device was listed under the logged-in devices section.

Another 29-year-old woman shared a similar experience. Although she received a scam call, she refrained from sharing her OTP.

These scam calls have become increasingly common, but the alarming aspect is that the scammers seem to have precise account details of the victims, raising serious concerns about a potential data breach at Sadapay.

When Azaad English reached out to SadaPay’s helpline, they were directed to an email address for further inquiries. Despite sending an email, no reply was received. A helpline representative mentioned that their office hours were until 7pm.

However, when an Azaad reporter visited their office around 5pm, no relevant authority was available to address the issue.
