LAHORE: The government of Punjab approved different schemes including the Punjab Smog Mitigation and Response Initiative or Air Safe to lower the effect of air pollution in the province.

The Environment Protection and Climate Change Department will install anti-smog guns or fog cannons in highly smoggy areas to provide temporary relief. The anti-smog guns would easily cleanse the small particles that pollute the air.

The environment department also announced to deploy 30 Air Quality Monitoring Stations to get authentic information on prevailing air quality index (AQI) across the province.

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on Friday approved these initiatives at an estimated cost of Rs5.38bn.

The department also announced to set up three fuel testing mobile laboratories as well as 20 smoke opacity meters and automotive emission analysers to enhance vehicular emission testing and gauge their compliance level.
