The government of Punjab has established a “Smog War Room” at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) headquarters in Lahore, where focal persons from eight relevant departments will brief the EPA director general and other officers daily regarding their measures to curb smog.
In a notification issued by the EPA DG Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, it is stated, “Officers of EPA, Transport, Agriculture Extension, Local Government & Community Development, Lahore Waste Management Company, and Urban Unit will meet at the ‘Smog War Room’ twice a day (9:30 am and 9:00 pm) to analyze data and future forecast.”
The Smog War Room will also evaluate the performance of the smog mitigation activities. The daily advisory will be prepared by the Incharge of the Smog War Room and the same will be issued with the approval of the EPA DG.
Additionally, the department also announced mandatory leaves for those students in Lahore’s special education schools having illness due to polluted air from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
