ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has severed the ground transportation connections between Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to restrict Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest march to the federal capital.
The GT Road has been sealed off at Attock Khurd, with containers blocking both ends, while a large contingent of Rangers, Frontier Corps, and policemen have been stationed at the check post.
This has paralysed traffic on the Punjab-KP route, forcing several passengers to continue their journey on foot.
On the other hand, the Motorway M1 has also been closed to all traffic from the Peshawar Toll Plaza.
However, taking all these security measures, PTI leaders and supporters from Attock district have already crossed over to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The authorities have made elaborate arrangements to thwart the convoy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur from entering Punjab on high alert security on the motorway and the GT Road.
Ali Amin Gandapur will arrive in Swabi at 3pm today to oversee preparations and lead the protest march.
The protest, organised by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, will see participants from Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Peshawar, Buner, Swat, Mohmand, Bajaur, Khyber, and other districts converge in Swabi before proceeding to the capital.
