LAHORE: The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province, prohibiting all forms of protests, rallies, and public gatherings ahead of the PTI protest in Islamabad on November 24.
According to the notification, the restrictions will be in effect from Saturday, November 23, to Monday, November 25.
This restriction has been put to maintain law and order situations and avert possible terrorist activities. The notice further explained that the administration will do its best to enforce the order in the entire Province of Punjab.
Section 144 prohibits social meetings of five or more people and any breach of the order may result in consequences of the law.
It is pertinent to mention that the imprisoned PTI chairman Imran Khan called for protests throughout the country on November 24.
Earlier on Thursday, Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, said that Imran Khan has confirmed plans to hold a protest on November 24, regardless of the circumstances.
Talking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan said that more than 200 cases were filed against Imran Khan over two and a half years. He said that he is constantly being told that Imran Khan is trying to make a “deal”, but if that were the case, he would not have been in jail for so long.
Earlier on Thursday, petitions were filed in the Peshawar High Court and Islamabad High Court seeking to halt the PTI protest march to the capital November 24, 2024.
The petitioner, Jalal Ud Din, a resident of Peshawar, has challenged the use of public resources for political activities and the alleged neglect of governance duties by the provincial administration.
