ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has terminated Salman Ahmad’s party membership and expelled him for social media posts against party founder Imran Khan’s family.

The notification issued by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan added that the action was taken against “divisive behaviour and controversial social media posts, particularly targeting the family of the party’s founder, Imran Khan”.

Salman Ahmad was consistently found posting “unwarranted and scurrilous posts” on social media including X which sought to sow division and discontent among the members and supporters of PTI, the notification read.

“The party had dissociated itself from your [Salman Ahmad] conduct and statements and had warned you about the consequences of your conduct,” the notification read.

It further added that through press releases issued by the Core Committee of PTI, the party had told Ahmed to desist from posting those objectionable posts.

“Your basic membership is hereby terminated and you are expelled from the Party with immediate effect. You are further asked never to show any affiliation with PTI,” the statement maintained.

In several posts on X, Ahmad criticised Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi for her political activities during the November 26 protests, sparking criticism from party supporters.

“Corrupt and greedy Bushra Bibi and her family and equally corrupt friends like Malik Riaz Zulfi Bokhari, Farah gogi and Gen Faiz were a constant source of embarrassment for Imran Khan who did not enter politics to enrich himself,” a post on X read.

“They provided the excuses through their behavior. It’s disgusting to say that he was removed because he walked barefoot in Mecca. So uneducated and so stupid,” he wrote.

Salman Ahmad, a musician and member of the Junoon rock band, had long been a supporter of the PTI singing songs at the party’s gatherings and addressing the party workers. In 2022, he was appointed as the focal person for Imran on culture.
