The Government of Pakistan has decided to block all SIM cards that are registered under deceased individuals or are linked to expired or canceled identification cards.

A TV channel reported that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to take action based on data obtained from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

Moreover, if a person has obtained a cell phone SIM card and has since passed away, that SIM will be blocked starting from October 15th. The process of blocking these telephone SIMs will be completed in three phases.

In the first phase, all SIMs registered on fake or canceled identification cards will be blocked. In the second phase, all SIMs associated with expired identification cards will be blocked.

In the third phase, all cell phone SIMs registered to individuals who are no longer alive will be deactivated.

Furthermore, PTA has advised people that if they wish to transfer a SIM card to their name, they should visit any franchise or service center with the necessary documents for processing to avoid the SIMs from being blocked.
