ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that today, November 30 is the last day for registering unregistered Virtual Private Networks (VPNs); however, an extension is expected.

The decision to extend the registration deadline will be made in consultation with the Ministry of Interior. PTA sources indicated that an extension is possible, considering requests from the IT industry, freelancers, and other stakeholders who have called for more time.

According to PTA sources over 27,000 VPNs have been registered so far.

PTA emphasised the importance of registering VPNs to enhance cybersecurity and ensure data protection for national security. The original deadline for registration was set for November 30. If the deadline is not extended, unregistered VPNs will be blocked across the country.
