ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday approved the appointment of 12 additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) for a period of one year.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification after the President’s approval.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 197 read with clause (8) of Article 175A of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President of Pakistan is pleased to appoint the following persons as Additional Judges of the High Court of Singh for one year with effect from the date they make an oath of their office,” the notification read.

The appointed judges include, “Miran Muhammad Shah, Tasneem Sultana, Riazat Ali Sahar, Muhammad Hasan Akber, Khalid Hussain Shahani, Abdul Hamid Bhurgri, Syed Fiaz ul Hasan Shah, Jan All Junejo, Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, All Haider, Muhammad Osman All Hadi, and Muhammad Jaffer Raza.

Last week, the Judicial Com­mission of Pakistan (JCP), headed by CJP Justice Yahya Afridi, deliberated on 46 nominees for 12 vacant SHC posts.

Furthermore, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan by a majority also extended the term of Judges of the Constitutional Benches of the Sindh High Court for six months.

Earlier this month, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment of three additional judges in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) and two in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a gazette notification regarding the appointment of additional judges on Saturday.
