KARACHI: Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that his party doesn’t support a ban on any political party after the reports emerged that the PML-N led federal government is considering imposing a ban on former ruling Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speaking at a conference in Karachi on Friday, the Sindh CM criticised the PTI leadership for a protest in Islamabad, saying that it resembled a circus with jokers present. He said, “It seemed like a circus was staged by a particular political party, with jokers in attendance.”
The chief minister asserted that the PPP opposes the banning of any political party, adding that the demand for the release of a particular individual was fundamentally wrong.
His statement came after the Balochistan Assembly passed a joint resolution, moved by PML-N and PPP members, demanding the federal government to impose a ban on Imran Khan-founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The top minister further mentioned the legal hurdles to imposing the governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating it has become quite challenging to implement.
Talking about the Council of Common Interests (CCI), Murad Ali Shah expressed concern over the federal government’s failure to convene a CCI meeting, which he regarded as a constitutional necessity.
