Following heavy downpours in Karachi last night, PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz warned on Tuesday that the peak of the current monsoon spell is still to come, with more than 150 millimeters of rain expected to lash the port city.
During a conversation with a private news channel, Sardar Sarfaraz cautioned that Karachi is expected to experience heavy downpours starting tonight, with the rainfall likely to persist for the next three to four days.
“The monsoon system is expected to grow stronger after August 28 as Karachi may receive as much as 150-200 millimeters rain,” he said.
The PMD chief also indicated that thunderstorms, along with scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rainfall, are likely during this period.

Urban flooding and rainwater accumulation pose significant risks, particularly in Karachi and other major cities across Sindh.
In addition, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that a low-pressure system, manifesting as a deep depression, is currently situated in Indian Gujarat. This system is influencing monsoon winds, which are now impacting Sindh, contributing to the ongoing heavy rainfall in the region.
