ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif will leave for a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia tomorrow at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
Shehbaz Sharif is going to Saudi Arabia to participate in the “One Water Summit.”.
“One Water Summit” is being hosted by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron; the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, in partnership with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.
“It aims to contribute to the ongoing United Nations discussions and process to enhance global water governance, accelerate action on SDG6 on water and sanitation, building on the momentum of the UN Water Conference in 2023,” read the introduction of the summit on its official website.
PM Shehbaz will also deliver a keynote address at a roundtable focused on restoring and preserving freshwater resources and wetlands, as well as adapting to climate challenges.
He will share Pakistan’s efforts in water conservation, climate resilience, biodiversity preservation, and improving water quality while advocating for stronger international partnerships to address climate-induced challenges like floods, extreme weather, and heat stress affecting water systems.
PM Sharif will also attend the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Conference of the Parties, a pivotal global event addressing land restoration as part of the UN’s environmental agreements.
On the sidelines of these events, the Prime Minister will engage in bilateral discussions with international leaders, including a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The discussions will cover pressing global and regional issues, further enhancing Pakistan’s role on the international stage.
This visit will be the PM’s third meeting with the Crown Prince in just six weeks.
