In a significant move to enhance regional connectivity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang virtually inaugurated the Gwadar International Airport yesterday. The ceremony, held at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad, was part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Premier Li arrived in Islamabad for a four-day official visit ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
During the inauguration, both leaders unveiled the plaque, marking the airport’s official opening. The event was attended by senior officials, ministers, and military leadership from both nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz, while addressing the gathering, hailed the airport’s completion as a testament to the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. He stated that Gwadar’s economy, and Pakistan’s overall economic landscape, would benefit significantly from the new international airport.
Both countries also signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in areas such as industry, commerce, and agriculture. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that these agreements would further strengthen ties.
