ISLAMABAD: Following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) claims of protestors being shot dead, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has issued a clarification, denying the rumours circulating on social media.

According to the Pims administration, reports of casualties among protesters have no truth, adding that most of the protestors injured during the clashes were discharged after receiving initial medical care, while treatment for some others is still ongoing.

“During the PTI protest, 66 security personnel and 36 civilians were brought to the hospital’s emergency department,” the hospital administration added.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also refuted the false claims of fatalities of PTI supporters. “They have been making rounds of hospitals since morning in search of bodies for their propaganda,” he remarked.

Naqvi clarified that no firearms were issued to police personnel during the PTI protest, and they were equipped only with batons. “If a single bullet had been fired, they would have created an uproar globally. They are struggling to cover their embarrassment,” he added.

Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar also added that no firing was carried out on protesters and claimed no fatalities among them. “PTI is resorting to baseless propaganda to avoid embarrassment,” he said during a visit to the D-Chowk and Jinnah Avenue in Islamabad last night.

The federal minister criticised the PTI leadership, saying that making big claims and then fleeing the protest site is their hallmark.
