A flight steward from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been detained by customs authorities at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) for attempting to smuggle mobile phones into the country.
This incident is part of a larger operation in which over 50 iPhones were seized from two suspects, including a constable from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) of the Punjab police.

The customs officials detained the PIA flight steward after recovering 15 iPhones during a routine baggage scan. The steward was traveling from Toronto to Islamabad on a tourist visa, not on duty, and the total estimated value of the seized phones was around Rs5.1 million.
The customs authorities had already arrested the constable involved in another case, where 41 iPhones were found hidden in a handbag and a carton. Both individuals, along with the flight steward, were remanded for two days and are expected to appear in a special customs court.
PIA management has issued a show-cause notice to the flight steward, asserting that the airline does not tolerate illegal activities by its employees, regardless of whether they are on duty.
