KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to reduce its international ticket prices after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a waiver on the Federal Excise Duty (FED), providing significant relief for travelers.
The waiver, granted at the request of the current government, is expected to result in substantial savings for passengers flying internationally.
Travelers heading to the United States could benefit from fare reductions of up to Rs0.35 million, while those flying to regions like Africa and the Gulf countries may see cuts of approximately Rs0.1 million. Passengers traveling to destinations in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East could enjoy savings of up to Rs0.2million.
This adjustment comes in response to the FED imposed on flight tickets in the 2024 budget, offering some financial relief to those planning international trips.
Additionally, the government is moving forward with its plan to privatize the loss-making national carrier, with revised regulations set to open up bidding for a 60 per cent stake in PIA.
