Pakistan cricket frequently makes headlines, whether due to on-field performances—like reaching the T20 World Cup final one year and then being knocked out in the group stage the next, including a loss to debutants USA—or through off-field controversies.
This time, it’s PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s recent statement that has sparked discussion. Mohsin Naqvi has announced that Pakistan will be utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist in their team selection process.
“The issue lies in the fact that the selection committee has a limited pool of players to choose from,” PCB Chairman stated during a media briefing on Monday.

Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged the challenges facing Pakistan cricket, citing a lack of solid data and a limited player pool as key issues. He stated that while the system has been chaotic, the upcoming Champions Cup is expected to generate new talent and crucial records, which will aid in future team selections.
In a surprising statement, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi revealed that the lack of records for domestic players has complicated team selection. He noted that the upcoming Cup will strengthen domestic cricket and expand the player pool to 150.
The PCB Chairman stated that 80% of the selection of the 150 players has been done using AI, with 20% relying on human judgment. He added that this method is transparent and that replacing a player with a less capable one would lead to criticism.
