WEB DESK: Pakistan Ulema Council has labeled the events of May 9 as the darkest tragedy in the annals of Pakistan’s history. Calling for swift judicial action against the perpetrators, the Council urged for the immediate release of innocent individuals caught in the aftermath.

Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi made this impassioned plea during a press conference held in Lahore. He stressed the significance of May 10 being observed as Youm e Istehkam Pakistan , where scholars and religious leaders will use Friday sermons to underscore the importance of unity between the Pakistan Army and the nation for the security, stability, and unity of the country.

Ashrafi, alongside prominent figures such as Mufti Syed Naseem Islam and Maulana Qari Mubashir Rahimi, condemned the tragic events of May 9 and stressed the urgency for the judiciary to act swiftly in bringing the culprits to justice.

Expressing deep concern, Ashrafi lamented the delay in holding accountable those responsible for the heinous acts, despite ample evidence against them. He called for a thorough investigation into the root causes behind the division within the nation and the military, as well as the instigators behind political violence and chaos.

Ashrafi stressed the importance of humility in leadership, stating that acknowledging mistakes is a trait of great leaders. He urged the leadership of Tehreek-e-Insaf to opt for negotiation over stubbornness in addressing grievances.

Regarding the perpetrators of the May 9 tragedy, Ashrafi unequivocally labeled them as national criminals, questioning the permissibility of any group or individual to vandalize sensitive defense installations with impunity.

Highlighting the imperative of political stability for Pakistan’s economic progress, Ashrafi called upon national leaders to step up and fulfill their roles in ensuring a stable and prosperous future for the nation.
