WEB DESK: November 2024 is the warmest in the history of Pakistan, as indicated by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) report, with a difference of +2.89°C from the monthly national average.

This alarming increase in temperatures again harms the reading on climate variations within the region.

The national meteorological average temperature recorded in November amounted to 20.75°C, notably above the historical mean average of 17.87°C. This record-breaking warmth marks the highest November in 64 years beating the previous record of 19.87°C set 2011.

Temperatures during day and nights

Daytime maximum temperatures have, on average, reached 28.05°C. This average exceeds the national average of 25.92°C by +2.13°C, making it the second highest 64 years ago. The previous was 28.09°C was recorded in 2007.

On the other hand, nocturnal temperatures have shown an even greater increase, giving an average of 13.40°C-a staggering +4.07°C more than the national average of 9.33°C-the highest initial nighttime temperature recorded since records began, succeeding the previous 12.22°C recorded in 2011.

The hottest day during November was on 3 November when Turbat, Balochistan, peaked at 41.0°C. Mithi, Sindh, topped the list of the warmest locations in the year overall, having a mean monthly maximum temperature of 35.5°C.

On the other hand, November 28 was the coldest night of the month at Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, where the temperatures dipped to lows of -6.6°C. Skardu also recorded the lowest mean monthly minimum temperature, which was -0.9°C.

Rainfall and weather patterns

Rainfall during November 2024 remained close to average, with the national area-weighted total of 5.6mm indicating an anomaly of +8 per cent positive. The single-day maximum rainfall occurred in Khuzdar, Balochistan, where 54.3mm fell during the storm event on November 30.
