KARACHI: The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has been restructured into three distinct entities: the PCAA, the Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation (BASI), and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA). Each entity has been assigned specific roles and responsibilities.

Under the new structure, all commercial airports are now managed by the PAA. BASI will be responsible for investigating aircraft accidents, while the PCAA will handle regulatory functions. This includes overseeing flight standards, pilot licensing, aerodrome airspace, airworthiness, air transport, and aeromedical issues.

The Ministry of Aviation announced the creation of PAA and BASI through separate notifications dated August 9, 2024. This reorganization follows the passage of relevant legislation by Parliament in 2023.

As part of the restructuring, employees have been reassigned to departments based on their expertise, and finances and assets have been allocated accordingly. The Ministry of Aviation has also advertised for the positions of Director Generals for both the PCAA and PAA.

Further details, including notifications for department heads, will be issued in due course
