The Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Friday released a report saying that over 62,000 incidents of crime including mugging and murder were reported from January 1 to October 31, 2024.

The report, based on the crime situation in Karachi for the last 10 months, showed that a total of 16,777 mobile phones were snatched in the city. It further revealed that more than 39,000 motorcycles were stolen and 1,489 car theft cases were reported.

Moreover, this year so far 19 incidents of kidnapping for ransom happened besides 80 cases of extortion. In these 10 months, 478 individuals lost their lives in various incidents, the CPLC report read.

The CPLC report further revealed that 11 police personnel were martyred, and 105 citizens lost their lives during attempts to resist robbery.

Earlier on Wednesday, Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that street crime can only be reduced when criminals are properly identified, arrested, and subsequently punished.

Earlier this week, a private security company guard opened fire and injured two Chinese nationals at a textile mill in the SITE area of Karachi, the Foreign Office said. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Karachi South Asad Raza said that the injured had been shifted to a private hospital where one of the injured was said to be in critical condition.

“This morning, two Chinese nationals were injured in Karachi as a result of a firing incident following a dispute with a private guard. The injured were immediately taken to hospital and are under treatment,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.
