ISLAMABAD: The federal government has proposed amendments to the tariff for electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) and requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to amend the existing rates.
The NEPRA has issued a notice of hearing saying it will hold a public hearing on February 12, 2025, to discuss the government proposal.
The notice read that the government is conveying policy guidelines for the rationalization of tariffs for electric vehicle charging stations under sections 7 and 31 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997.
According to the motion, the government wants to set a base rate of PKR 23.57/kWh for EVCS.
The government motion aimed to encourage investment in charging infrastructure and support Pakistan’s EV policy targets for 2030.
The difference between the new and existing tariffs will be managed through a cross-subsidy. All existing taxes and adjustments will still apply.
The motion also seeks to remove the current capped margin of PKR 24.44/kWh. This will allow market forces to determine the final rates for EVCS.
NEPRA has invited stakeholders, affected parties, and the public to share their views.
“Any interested person who desires to participate in the proceedings may file an
intervention request or comments within seven days from the date of publication of
this notice” the notice read.
