WEB DESK: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification announcing an increase of Rs0.20 per unit in electricity prices as part of the first quarterly adjustment for the ongoing fiscal year.

This adjustment will impose an additional burden of Rs1.187 billion on electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi.

According to the notification, the quarterly adjustment will be applicable for one month only, specifically in December 2024 electricity bills. The increase, however, exempts lifeline and prepaid electricity consumers. Additionally, consumers benefiting from the winter package for extra electricity usage will also remain unaffected by this adjustment.

The notification further highlighted that the collection of the previous fiscal year’s last quarterly adjustment, set at Rs1.74 per unit, concluded in November 2024.

This adjustment comes amid ongoing efforts to align electricity pricing with quarterly financial adjustments and stabilize the energy sector.
