Veteran actor and host Nauman Ijaz, known for his numerous successful dramas, expressed his strong opinion on television dramas during a recent appearance on a private TV channel’s show. When asked about changes he would implement if appointed as the chairman of the censor board, Ijaz stated that he would shut down all TV dramas.

He elaborated, saying, “I will ban all the dramas, because (family) relations in the dramas are being debased to such an extent. I feel saddened by the fact that people don’t take action against TV channels.”

Ijaz, aged 59, criticized the portrayal of family relationships in dramas, noting that they often depict characters like mothers, sisters, brothers, mothers-in-law, and fathers as negative or evil. “The sanctity of our relationships is being undermined by these negative portrayals,” he added.

Highlighting the influence of TV on society, Ijaz expressed concern over the impact of negative characterizations. Despite this concern, he noted that viewers tend to gravitate towards characters with negative traits, contributing to their popularity.

Sharing an example, Ijaz mentioned a drama where a sister-in-law was depicted negatively, yet it garnered high ratings, which he found amusing.

Expressing his desire to bring about positive change, Ijaz lamented the prevalence of negativity in society.
