WEBDESK: The nation celebrated the 125th birthday of famous Pakistani poet and writer Abu Al-Asar Hafeez Jalandhari today on Tuesday.

He was born on January 14, 1900, in Jalandhar, India, Hafeez migrated to Lahore after the partition of India in 1947. He devoted more than half of his life to literature. His literary contributions earned him titles such as “Poet of Islam” and “Poet of Pakistan.”

Hafeez Jalandhari’s poetry revolved around themes of patriotism, religion, and love. He gained national fame for penning Pakistan’s national anthem, a timeless creation that continues to inspire the nation. Additionally, he composed the national anthem of Azad Kashmir, further solidifying his legacy.

Despite lacking formal higher education, Hafeez enriched his knowledge through extensive reading and dedication. His literary growth was guided by the mentorship of renowned Persian poet Maulana Ghulam Qadir Bilgrami. Hafeez’s famous poetry collections include Naghma Zaar, Soz-o-Saaz, TalKhaba-e-Shareen, Chiragh-e-Sehar, and Bazm Nahi Rasm.

He also played an active role in the Pakistan Movement, using his revolutionary poetry to motivate people for independence.

He was honoured with prestigious awards, including the Tamgha-e-Husn-e-Karkardagi and Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his contributions.

Hafeez Jalandhari passed away on December 21, 1982, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to literature, patriotism, and cultural identity.
