ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) on Friday closed the M4 Motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem due to fog and smog.
According to Motorway Police Spokesman Syed Imran Ahmed, the motorways are closed to ensure public safety and safe travel.
The message said that road users should prefer to travel during the maximum hours of the day, with 10am to 6pm being the best travel times during foggy weather.
Road users should use front and rear fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, avoid speeding and keep an adequate distance from the vehicle in front.
Separtaley, Multan’s Air Quality Index (AQI) on Friday between 8am to 9am reached 2,135, crossing hazardous level, according to AQI.
This has made the city one of the most polluted in the region, surpassing even Lahore Smog in air toxicity on Friday.
The situation has become increasingly dire for residents, as the pollution is severely impacting health.
Separately, the Punjab government has taken urgent measures to protect public health. The wearing of masks has been made mandatory, and schools and colleges have been closed temporarily. Furthermore, the government has imposed a ban on heavy traffic entering Lahore and has prohibited open-air barbecues in an effort to reduce the smog.
