ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Friday said that media houses always protecting property tycoon Malik Riaz.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Khawaja Asif said that Malik Riaz is no longer untouchable and the state will go after him to bring him back to Pakistan to face charges. Referring to the 190 million pounds case, the Defence Minister questioned how state funds ended up in Riaz’s account.

He said that Malik Riaz is involved in illegally occupying lands and illegal housing societies. He is illegally occupying land belonging to poor, said Khawaja Asif.

He said that Malik Riaz will have to face accountability.

He said that anyone who is involved in illegal practices will face the law of the land. No one is above the law. The property tycoon Malik Riaz who was involved in illegal practices will face charges.

Hitting hard at the media, he said that the media has an important role in educating people but it is unfortunate that media houses protecting Malik Riaz’s wrongdoings. “The media is an equal partner in Malik Riaz’s crimes,” he said.

He said that the state has finally laid hands on them after three decades of acquiescence.

Taking a dig at the media, PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said that the state will hold accountable those whose names the media does not dare to name. The state has put the Malik Riaz on its radars after three decades.  

He also warned the people not to invest in his foreign businesses.

He said that a comprehensive investigation is needed into Riaz’s financial dealings at the national level.
