Lieutenant General Asim Malik has officially taken over as the Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), following the announcement of his appointment on September 23.
He succeeds Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, who stepped down from the position on September 29. General Nadeem Anjum served as the DG ISI for nearly three years, having assumed the role on November 20, 2021.

During General Anjum’s tenure, he faced multiple challenges, including significant events such as regime change and national elections. Following the ousting of the PTI government as a result of a no-confidence motion, the military and ISI were subjected to intense propaganda.
