Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a written order scheduling the next hearing for a petition challenging the imposition of protective and non-protective tariffs on electricity consumers.
Responding to the petitioner’s concerns, the Supreme Court has directed the public prosecutor to attend the forthcoming session with specific instructions.
The written order underscores the petitioner’s claim that electricity tariffs are not being applied in accordance with the basic rate for consumers.

Yesterday, the LHC issued a notice to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) following a petition challenging the steep rise in electricity bills for consumers using more than 200 units. NEPRA has been asked to provide its response at the upcoming hearing.
Justice Risal Hasan Syed has also raised queries regarding the justification for the recent electricity price hikes during the court proceedings.
NEPRA approves increase of Rs7.12 in electricity tariffs
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority(NEPRA) has approved a government request to increase the basic electricity tariff by Rs7.12 per unit, affecting all consumers nationwide, including K-Electric.
Customers using up to 200 units will be exempt from this hike for three months.
