LAHORE: Lahore Safari Zoo celebrated the earlier display of an added thrill of life, welcoming its first seven lion Bengal cubs on Friday.

The director of the zoo, Tanveer Ahmed Janjua, confirmed the births and explained that three lionesses made it possible. The first lioness delivered three cubs, while the remaining two gave birth to two cubs each. Of these, two cubs are rare white lions which very much add to more charm in the zoo’s growing wildlife family.

Animal life brings new heights to Lahore Safari Zoo. Recently, three healthy Royal Bengal tiger cubs were added to the existing collection of big cats. Janjua’s announcement elaborated more on the lions and tigers.

All cubs are healthy, except for four lion cubs, which have behavioral problems. The mothers of these cubs rejected them because lionesses sense illness or some defect in their cubs, thus, keeping such cubs away. Staff hands feed the cubs and ensure good rearing.

With the emergence of baby lions, the lion population in the zoo increased from twenty-two to twenty-nine. Veterinary experts clarify that most big cats do abandon their young, most especially when sensing something is not right with them. Instinctively, such a reaction sometimes leads to the need for bottle feeding and care of the cubs.

Karachi Zoo allures five, but this year there is one more addition: three lion cubs born of one mother lion. Their health is reported to be good. The cubs, born to a single lioness, are expected to be opened to the public after eight weeks when they reach the age of two months. According to photos released by zoo authorities, it has even become very warm under the joy of growing status.
