Lahore ranked as the most polluted city in the world on Wednesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching hazardous levels on Wednesday, alarming citizens about the impending smog season.

According to Jang News, Karachi ranks 17th, with a recorded pollution level of 77 particulate matter.

Delhi is ranked second among the world’s most polluted cities, with an air pollution level of 169 particulate matter.

Air pollution levels in Lahore have been increasing, and the city has previously held the top position on the list of the most polluted cities.

Smog situation last year

Last year, the smog situation in Punjab was severe, prompting educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, to announce closures.

The Punjab government has implemented various measures to address smog in the provincial capital; however, the issue persists despite these efforts.

Separately, the Punjab School Education Department has officially released the academic calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. Students will attend classes for 184 days throughout the year, with the department urging both students and teachers to prepare well for the upcoming term and make the most of their learning opportunities.

According to the academic calendar, the current school year will end on March 31, 2025, and the new academic year is set to begin on April 1, 2025.
