Lahore records coldest day of winter at 4°C

LAHORE: Lahore experienced its coldest day of the winter season on Thursday, as the temperature dropped to a chilly 4 degrees centigrade (°C).

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cold and dry weather will persist in Lahore and across most parts of Punjab through Thursday night and into Friday and Saturday.

The PMD reports that continental air prevails over much of Pakistan, contributing to the cold spell. Lahore’s minimum temperature is forecasted to range between 4°C and 6°C on Friday, dipping further to 3°C to 5°C on Saturday.

The cold weather should also include Murree, Galiyat, and adjoining areas. Dense fog and smog patches are likely during the night and early morning hours in cities like Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan. During the very early morning hours, there is a possibility of frost in the Pothohar region and some areas of plain.

Murree was the coldest place in Pakistan yesterday when it recorded a temperature of 1 degree Celsius below freezing. Lahore, on the other hand, had a relative humidity of 92 percent in the evening.

Cold and dry weather prevailed over Punjab for the past 24 hours, while Murree and the upper districts were extremely cold. Foggy conditions persisted in parts of the north and east Punjab.

The residents must take necessary precautions for cold waves and foggy conditions entering and keeping the pattern of reduced visibility and a high chance of frost in these areas.
