WEBDESK: Lahore has once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recording a dangerously high level of 257 particulate matter (PM), which is considered hazardous to health, particularly for individuals with respiratory conditions.

Similarly, Karachi, the economic hub of Pakistan, is also facing severe air pollution. Karachi ranks third among the world’s most polluted cities, with a particulate matter level of 244. This indicates that the city’s air quality is also harmful, contributing to various health problems for its residents.

In addition, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, holds the second position on the list of the most polluted cities globally, with a slightly lower level of 247 PMr in the air.

These figures highlight the growing concerns over air pollution in South Asia, especially in urban areas, where industrialisation, traffic congestion, and inadequate environmental policies have led to the deterioration of air quality.

The high levels of air pollution in these cities are a major public health issue, including respiratory infections, heart diseases, eye irritation, and skin infections among its residents. The authorities need to take urgent steps to address this problem by implementing stricter regulations and promoting cleaner, sustainable practices.

An AQI below 50 is considered good ‘moderate’ between ’51 and 100′, ‘unhealthy for sensitive group’ at ‘101 and 150’, ‘unhealthy’ at ‘151-200’, very unhealthy at 201-300, 301 and above is ‘hazardous’.
