Lahore bans fireworks on New Year celebration

WEBDESK: Lahore has announced a complete ban on fireworks for New Year’s Eve, with the Environment Protection Agency issuing an official notification.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Syed Musa Raza, said that the ban is aimed at reducing air pollution and smog, which pose severe health risks, particularly to children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions.

The Deputy Commissioner said that maintaining public health is a top priority, with efforts underway to combat smog and ensure a clean and healthy environment. Citizens are urged to cooperate by avoiding actions that worsen air quality.

Traffic and Safety Measures

To manage the anticipated crowds, Additional IG Traffic Punjab, Mirza Faran Baig, has directed all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) to implement a comprehensive traffic plan.

Key roads will have additional personnel deployed, and restrictions will be enforced to prevent overcrowding in areas like Murree. Measures to curb reckless driving, such as one-wheeling and car stunts, will also be strictly implemented.

Zero Tolerance for Illegal Activities

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore, Bilal Siddique Kamyana, has issued a zero-tolerance policy for activities like one-wheeling, aerial firing, and public disturbances.

He also instructed crackdowns on the sale of drugs and alcohol. Special police squads, including Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Elite Force, will patrol the city to ensure law and order.

Citizens are encouraged to report any illegal or dangerous activities, including one-wheeling and aerial firing, by calling the police helpline at 15. Mechanics involved in modifying motorcycles for stunts will also face strict action.
