The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has unanimously passed an amendment bill, seeking an increase in house allowances for the provincial ministers.
According to the amendments, the KP ministers will get a one-time sum of Rs1 million for the renovation of their residences. The grant will be used to buy carpets, curtains, air-conditioners, and refrigerators for public houses.
However, when the provincial minister leaves the residence after the tenure ends, all the items must be returned to the administrative department.
Furthermore, the members residing in a separate private house, not in the official residence, will receive a monthly rent allowance of Rs200,000, which was earlier fixed at Rs70,000. The ministers who own homes in Peshawar will also be eligible for this benefit.
The provincial assembly also approved the resolution regarding the closure of marriage halls at 10 pm across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The opposition members in the house criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying that the KP govt cries over the financial crunch while looting the exchequer.
