WEBDESK: Tensions flared in Karachi’s Numaish Chowrangi as protests turned violent, with police using tear gas and demonstrators retaliating with stones.

A car and a motorcycle were set ablaze during the unrest.

Police forces, including the Anti-Riot Squad and water cannon units, were deployed to disperse the crowd, but the situation remained volatile.

The protests, organised by a religious group, have entered their eighth consecutive day, paralysing several areas of the city. Early attempts by the police to clear sit-ins were met with resistance, leading to fresh demonstrations in locations like Abbas Town, Ancholi, and Ayesha Manzil.

The leader of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Allama Syed Hasan Zafar Naqvi, declared that the sit-ins would continue, stating, “Do whatever you want; the protests will not end.”

These demonstrations were initially sparked to show solidarity with victims of recent violent incidents in Parachinar.

Currently, four key protest sites, including Numaish Chowrangi, University Road near Samama Shopping Mall, and Kamran Chowrangi, remain active, with Numaish Chowrangi being the main hub of activity.

Adding to the tension, the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat has announced its own sit-ins, with the central protest planned at Tower.
