ISLAMABAD: The federal government has planned to begin the construction of the Karachi-Sukkur Motorway in 2025 through a public-private partnership (PPP).

Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan, during a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday, stated that the motorway will link Karachi Port and Sukkur, establishing a crucial connection between the north and south of the country.

A public-private partnership will be used to build the motorway, and the government of Sindh has been invited to join the collaboration.

The federal government will cover the project’s expenses if no collaboration is formed.

The Karachi-Sukkur Motorway is expected to generate Rs3,000 billion over the following 25 years.

The meeting also decided to look into the possibilities of constructing the freeway through a consortium that would be created by the federal and Sindh governments, or through a public-private partnership (PPP).

Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, CM’s Secretary Raheem Shaikh, Secretary Works Mohammad Ali Shaikh, Federal Communication Secretary Ali Sher Mehsud, NHA Chairman Shaharyar Sultan, Director Hassan Shah, Member NHA Sindh Zone Parkash Lehano, and Member West Zone Basharat were also present at the meeting at CM House.

To simplify port traffic, the federal minister suggested that the M6 be started from Karachi to Sukkur via Hyderabad rather than Hyderabad to Sukkur. The idea was approved by the CM, who also talked about the construction method.
