KARACHI: Karachi, ranked as the world’s third most polluted city on Monday according to the Air Quality Index (AQI). The city’s pollution level has reached 215 particulate matter (PM), a level classified as hazardous to health.

Meanwhile, Lahore tops the list of the most polluted cities globally, with an AQI reading of 303 PM, followed by New Delhi, India, at 254 PM. Mumbai, another Indian city, ranks fourth with 175 PM.

An AQI below 50 is considered good ‘moderate’ between ’51 and 100′, ‘unhealthy for sensitive group’ at ‘101 and 150’, ‘unhealthy’ at ‘151-200’, very unhealthy at 201-300, 301 and above is ‘hazardous’.

Citizens are advised to take precautions, especially those with respiratory or heart conditions, as pollution levels remain critically high.
