The twins, Naila and Shumaila, were born on September 10 in a private hospital.

Their grandmother stated that the girls’ dad, Ghulam Mustafa and his wife, had financial difficulties in scheduling the surgery. However, a NICH spokesman stated that the hospital management reimbursed all charges.

Experts from NICH, Aga Khan University Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) collaborated on the procedure. NICH Executive Director Dr Nasir Siddle said that experts from private hospitals were also consulted during the planning phase.

“The surgery was difficult but successful, thanks to the teamwork and expertise of everyone involved. Both girls are in good health,” Professor Siddle said.

The twins’ grandmother thanked the medical team and assistants. “We didn’t have the money for the operation. I thank everyone who helped us and the doctors who worked so hard to save our girls.
