The Karachi administration has imposed a ban on double parking along the city’s busiest roads, as reported by media,

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Hassan Naqvi, who emphasised the urgent need for improved traffic management and stricter enforcement of paid parking regulations.

The move aims to curb the increasing disruptions caused by unauthorised and double parking, particularly in the South District, which has been identified as a key contributor to the city’s traffic bottlenecks.

Karachi unauthorised parking zones

Meanwhile, DIG Traffic Karachi Ahmed Nawaz disclosed during the meeting that Karachi has 201 designated paid parking zones, with approximately 130 located along major thoroughfares. However, he noted that illegal parking practices and double-parking in these areas have exacerbated congestion, hindering smooth traffic flow.

“The unauthorised parking spots, especially in high-traffic districts, are creating significant challenges for commuters,” Nawaz stated.

The meeting concluded with a resolution to enforce stricter regulations for parking contractors. Non-compliance with these rules could result in the revocation of permits, as authorities aim to ensure adherence to established guidelines.

Furthermore, the district administration and traffic police will jointly oversee the implementation of these measures, with a focus on restoring order to Karachi’s congested roads. The authorities expressed optimism that this collaborative effort would lead to a noticeable improvement in traffic conditions, benefiting the city’s residents and commuters alike.
