A day after receiving approval from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to raise electricity tariffs for Karachi consumers, K-Electric (KE) has submitted a new request, seeking an additional increase of Rs 3.09 per unit under the Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA).
K-Electric has proposed a Rs 3.09 per unit increase in the Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) for July. If this request is granted, the higher rate will appear on consumers’ electricity bills for November.
The proposed Rs 3.09 per unit increase in the Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) by K-Electric is likely to place an extra financial burden exceeding Rs 10 billion on residents of Karachi. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to review KE’s request for this adjustment on August 29.

Just a day before this, NEPRA had granted K-Electric’s request to raise electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel charge adjustments for May and June. According to the notification issued by NEPRA, the electricity tariff was increased by Rs 2.59 per unit for May and Rs 3.17 per unit for June.
This previous hike is expected to add more than Rs 6.2 billion to the financial strain on the residents of Karachi.
K-Electric clarified that the fuel charge adjustments (FCA) will be distributed over two months, rather than being applied in a single billing cycle.
The FCA for May will be reflected in October 2024 bills, and the FCA for June will be included in November 2024 bills. As a result, the net increase in customer bills for October will be Rs 1.59 per unit, while the net increase for November will be Rs 0.58 per unit.
