LAHORE: Journalist Syed Muzammil Shah’s house came under attack last night when two of his neighbours opened aerial fire while attempting to break into his home in Lahore.

The incident took place around 5:30pm when two of his neighbours fired at the house of Muzammil, who is also associated with Azaad Digital, in Lahore.

Muzammil took to X, formally known as Twitter, to share the news a day after the attack. “Two armed men from a neighbouring house in my absence, who seem to have taken offence over my recent political opinions, entered the premises of my house around 5: 30 PM yesterday in my absence,” he said in his post.

He further said that the accused fired multiple aerial gunshots with automatic weapons and tried to break doors.

“My family called the police & the men also fired shots in their presence & one of them escaped,” he said in his post in which he tagged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Despite two First Information Reports (FIRs) being registered, the main culprit Naveed is still at large and openly threatened to gun me down.

Explaining why he tweeted 24 hours after the incident, he said that he tried his best to avoid exposure regarding an event that has traumatised his family but since the main culprit is still at large, he is bringing in on record that if he or his family were harmed, the authorities ought to take responsibility.

“This is the cost of being a journalist in this country,” read his tweet.

Syed Muzammil Shah didn’t explain his recent opinions which triggered his neiboughers to attack his house. However, his last podcast video on his YouTube channel was titled “Drop scene of Imran Khan’s Final Call,” in which he criticised Imran Khan’s party for its aggressive approach and march towards the federal capital.

Muzammil had also slammed the coalition government of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif over their handling of the former ruling party’s protest march, saying, “They [PTI convoy] were supposed to come from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and you [Mohsin Naqvi] shut down all of Punjab.”

Moreover, he, in his vlog, said that both parties, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and PTI have a fascist mindset, placing them in the same category: “It is intra-fascist conflict.”
