WEB DESK: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan, in an exclusive interview with Mehdi Hassan, held former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa responsible for sending him to jail.
Unique Interview Setup
Due to Khan’s imprisonment, Mehdi Hassan could only send a list of written questions. He could not speak directly or ask follow-up questions.
Blame for Imprisonment
Mehdi: Who do you blame for your current imprisonment? Your Pakistani political rivals, the Pakistani military, the United States? Or all of the above?
Imran Khan: Over the past two years, I have had plenty of time to reflect and analyze every action and its consequences. After spending 11 months in prison, I am convinced that this ordeal was solely orchestrated by General Bajwa. I hold no one else responsible.
Furthermore, he meticulously planned and executed this scheme. He presented himself deceitfully and fabricated lies and false narratives to create chaos nationally and internationally—all to secure his extension. He utterly failed to understand the detrimental impact of his actions on democracy and Pakistan.
Life Behind Bars
Mehdi: What is life behind bars like? Have you been subjected to mistreatment? Torture?
Imran Khan: I find myself confined in what is known as a death cell—a small, isolated space typically reserved for terrorists. The authorities are intent on portraying me this way. In solitary confinement, I am deprived of even the basic rights afforded to prisoners.
They use psychological tactics to try and break my spirit. But my heart, strengthened by faith in Allah, remains unwavering. I stay occupied and mentally sharp through exercise and reading. Here, it’s about preparing and conditioning oneself for whatever lies ahead. Allah’s strength keeps me resilient, content, and focused.
