ISLAMABAD: Major General (retd) Zahid Mahmood has said that the state has decided to arrest property tycoon Malik Riaz and bring him back to Pakistan.

In a conversation with Azaad Digital, General (retd) Zahid Mahmood said that the state can bring back anyone if he faces charges and the state has decided to bring Malik Riaz back to Pakistan.

He said that no one is too powerful for the state. “There is no big elephant in front of the state, all are mice,” he said while responding to a question.

Zahid Mahmood praised the government and military leadership for showing that no one is above the law. He said that the nexus of corruption and power has caused a lot of damage to the county.

This week, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) said that it is investigating several cases of fraud and deception against Malik Riaz, the owner of Bahria Town, and others.

NAB has substantial evidence that Malik Riaz and his associates illegally occupied public and private lands in Karachi, Takht Pari Rawalpindi, and New Murree under the Bahria Town name without obtaining the required No Objection Certificates (NOCs), the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson further stated that Malik Riaz established housing societies without proper authorisation, committing fraud worth billions of rupees. He also occupied lands unlawfully and created illegal housing societies in Peshawar and Jamshoro under the Bahria Town name without NOCs.

According to NAB, even now Malik Riaz continues to deceive people and collect large sums of money through fraudulent means.

The NAB spokesperson highlighted that Malik Riaz is currently a fugitive in the National Crime Agency (NCA) case, wanted by both the courts and the NAB.

Within Pakistan, NAB has already seized numerous assets of Bahria Town. Legal action is now underway to confiscate further assets belonging to Malik Riaz without delay, the spokesperson confirmed.

Malik Riaz is currently residing in Dubai as a fugitive. Recently, he launched a new luxury apartment construction project in Dubai.

The public is strongly advised to refrain from investing in this project, the NAB spokesperson warned.

“Anyone investing in this project will be committing an act of money laundering,” the spokesperson stated, adding that investors in the project could face legal action.
